Skills development a necessity
Charities were the winning investors at a recent presentation by the Old Mutual Investment Group Namibia.
On 13 April, the Old Mutual Investment Group Namibia (OMIGNAM) hosted the acclaimed Gary Bailey ‘Performance Under Pressure’ presentation to stakeholders, and held its annual staff awards evening at the Stellenbosch Wine Bar.
The event was attended by OMIGNAM staff members and their partners, as well as by celebrities Michelle McClean and Gary Bailey.
As a subsidiary of Old Mutual, OMIGNAM shares the group’s national economic transformation strategy. This strategy is underpinned by four pillars: infrastructure and property development; enterprise development through job creation; education and skills capacity building.
OMIGNAM donated N$40,000 to the Michelle McClean Children Trust.
“At Old Mutual we believe in the furtherance of education excellence and in response to addressing the shortfall of skills development, the funds donated will be used by the trust for entrepreneurial and skills training for secondary school learners,” the group said in a statement.
The training will assist in the following areas: financial skills programme for Grade 12 learners;
early childhood development for home based crèches; curriculum vitae or resume writing for Grade 10 and 12 learners; career planning for Grade 10 and 12 learners; life skills programme;
employment of the youth; and entrepreneurial and career management training for Grade 12 learners.
Present at the handover of the funds, was Lionel Matthews, CEO of Old Mutual Investment Group (OMIGNAM). Commenting on the donation, Matthews said: “In our quest to realise our vision, customer centricity, investment performance, exceptional service delivery and the development of local skills and expertise, are viewed as vital strategic building blocks to this process.”
The Old Mutual Group’s vision is to become its customers’ most trusted partner. Within the context of this broader vision, OMIGNAM acts as a partnering wealth management business, collaborating with customers to achieve their long-term investment objectives.
