African Perspectives celebrates 10 years
AfricAvenir’s Namibian film series “African Perspectives” celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2016 and plans to give Namibian audiences gourmet cinema from the mother continent and its diaspora.
Emmy Award for best international documentary ‘Miners Shot Down’ by Rehad Desai will open the 2016 series. Rehad’s documentary film charts the chronology of events leading up to the now infamous Marikana Massacre in August 2012.
AfricAvenir has screened the film several times to Namibian audiences at several occasions and locations, touring the film through Namibia in 2014 with director Rehad Desai, Jabu Mzozo, Marikana support, Marikana Support Campaign and Mzoxolo Magidiwana, surviving Marikana miner. Miners Shot Down will be shown on 13 January 2016, at Franco Namibian Cultural Centre, 18:30 and the entrance fees are N$30.
With the ten year anniversary AfricAvenir will present films such as “The Unseen”, by Perivi Katjavivi, Namibia, Bound- Africans vs African Americans, by Peres Owino, Kenya and Things of the Aimless Wanderer by Kivu Ruhorahoza, Rwanda, to name but a few.
African Perspectives, is a monthly African Cinema series in Windhoek, organised by AfricAvenir since 2006, supported by AfriCine, the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre, Goethe Institute Namibia and Turipamwe Designs.
