Standards Institution approves first civil engineering company

The Namibian Standards Institution (NSI) recently awarded the first Namibian Construction and Contracting company in Civil Engineering, MPP Civils , with an ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System certification.
As an NSI certified company, MPP Civils Namibia will be privileged to use the NSI mark of conformity. The company is duty-bound to ensure that it continues to satisfy the requirements of the ISO 9001:2008 standard as well as abide by the Terms and Conditions of the Certification Scheme.
Panashe Daringo of MPP Civils Namibia said that most other construction companies in the country are licensed by outside authorities. “It gives the client peace of mind knowing that our operations function on a world class level.” It took the company about a year to obtain the certification while still updating current clients on the process.
System Certification involves an assessment of the management systems of an organization or business and certifies that these are sufficiently controlled to assure that the organization’s Quality Management System (ISO 9001) objectives are met. In the case of civil engineering companies, ISO certification confirms their management capacity and ability, enabling them to tender for and manage large-scale civil works projects.
Namibian goods and services, that meet the requirements of the applicable Namibian and International standards, are awarded a Certificate of Conformity, bearing a specific and applicable NSI Certification Mark of Conformity. This mark tells the market place that a product has been found to meet all the requirements of the standards concerned and that the process used in making the product has been assessed to meet the requirements.
The certificate, issued in recognition of MPP Civils’s commitment to have its Quality Management System (QMS) certified, which was audited by the Namibia Standards Institute and found it to be in compliance with all the requirements of the ISO 9001:2008 standard for the scope of “Contracting and Construction in Civil Engineering”. Speaking at the gala event held in Windhoek on Monday, the Standard Institute CEO Chie Wasserfall congratulated the company and thanked them for their confidence in the certification services.
She said MPP Civils has joined over one million organizations in the world certified for quality management systems.
“ISO 9001 certified organizations are able to demonstrate their ability to consistently provide products and services of a high quality. This demonstration is called Quality Assurance.”
Also speaking at the occasion was the Deputy Minister of Works and Transport Sankwasa James Sankwasa, he said government will continue to support companies that consider quality and safety in their operations.
In addition to the certification obtained, MPP Civils Namibia was recently pronounced as the winner in the 2015 National Quality Award Competition in Category 3 – Service of the Year SME, held in Windhoek on 15 October. At the same awards, MPP Civils also received 2nd prize in Category 1 – Company of the Year.
“To all the employees of MPP Civils, I call upon you to strive for excellence and to be proud of your quality management system certification. It is an achievement which is the product of all your efforts and commitment”, The Namibian Standards Institute CEO said.
