Olympia landfill reaches full capacity

The Olympia garden refuse and building rubble landfill site has reached its full capacity and will be closed as from 27 April.
According to a statement issued by CEO of the City of Windhoek, Niilo Taapopi’s office, residential building rubble and garden refuse generated in the south-eastern part of the city should be disposed of at the new Kleine Kuppe transfer station located 350m east of the Kleine Kuppe street and Robert Mugabe intersection.
Dumping of refuse at the Olympia site after closure will be strictly prohibited and will be regarded as an offence. The Kleine Kuppe transfer station is available for residential users only. This facility will not cater for large volumes and commercial operations. Only vehicles which carry a capacity of less than 1 ton will be allowed at the station.
The City further advised all site users with vehicles larger than 1 ton as well as building contractors wanting to dispose of either garden refuse or building rubble, to make use of the Pioniers Park landfill site situated about 700m west of the Western Bypass.
The sites are open to the public from Monday to Sunday during Summer from 07:30 to 19:30 and during Winter from 07:00 to 18:30 including public holidays.
