Women cricket league on this weekend

Cricket Namibia (CN) will hosts its first ever Women’s Cricket League this year with the first matches, all being played in the T20 format, scheduled to go down this Saturday across Windhoek.

The aim of the Women’s League is to provide a platform of more competition and matches amongst women, growing the game and exposing more girls and women to the game of cricket. Four teams have confirmed their participation, with the Zebra Ladies and Windhoek High School (WHS) Ladies representing the capital while the Pro-Ed and Blue Waters Ladies hoping to bring the maiden cup to the coast. Women’s Cricket has been on the rise throughout the globe in recent years. Besides the now newly introduced league format, Namibia’s ladies have been actively involved on a continental stage with the senior national und U19 teams having rubbed shoulders with countries Zimbabwe, South Africa, Tanzania, Botswana, Kenya and Uganda already. These countries have strong teams with Zimbabwe competing in the qualifying competition for a spot in next year’s T20 World Cup in India. The finals are scheduled for November with the venues depending on the finalists.
