Safland delivers pulsating 7s rugby tourney

Rugby cheers were not only heard across the globe because of the Rugby World Cup 2015 currently taking place in England but also right here in Windhoek at the Safland 7’s Rugby Tournament which took place last weekend.

Property services provider Safland sponsored the tournament at the Hage Geingob Stadium. The tournament was divided into two categories international and clubs, while16 schools also took part in the two-day tournament.
In the international section, Botswana, Namibia, Namibia Invitation, Naka Bulls, Northern All Stars, Poland, South African Academy team and Zimbabwe participated.
The tournament ended with the Blitzbokke of South Africa emerging victorious despite only having four regular players. They won the cup beating Zimbabwe in the final.
Meanwhile 7s rugby is now recognised as an Olympic sport and will make its début in the 2016 Summer Olympics set to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 05 to 21 August 2016.
