Windhoek Annual Oktoberfest beckons

NBL Managing Director, Wessie van der Westhuizen hits the Oktoberfest keg as an official start to the 2015 Windhoek Oktoberfest.

The 57th annual Windhoek Oktoberfest was officially launched early this week in Windhoek and the much anticipated event on the Namibian entertainment calendar is pencilled for 30 to 31 October.

In the aim of bringing the purity, premium experience to consumers in South Africa, NBL has decided to include its SA clientèle in the annual Oktoberfest celebrations. As a result, for the first time in the history of the Oktoberfest, Cape Town will join the globe in celebrating the popular Oktoberfest at the Hillcrest Quary, Durbanville in Cape Town from 23 to 24 October.
Norbert Wurm, member of the Windhoek Oktoberfest organising committee said, “Passion shown by the Bavarians toward the annual Oktoberfest is an immense contributor to the success this event has grown to become. Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) – a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group – share the same passion for our products, and for Namibia and its people. NBL was thus drawn to this global annual activity and committed to joining in with the rest of the world in the celebration of the Oktoberfest.”
Wurm added, “Our excellent Namibian beer brewed according to the purity law, the Reinheitsgebot of 1516 is not the only thing visitors to the Windhoek Oktoberfest can expect. Great German food, traditional games and activities, as well as world-class entertainment will add to the excitement that awaits Windhoek Oktoberfest supporters.”
Entertainment will include the popular world-class Oktoberfest band; the Kirchdorfer, straight from the original Oktoberfest in Münich, where they have been performing in the Hacker-Festzelt, every year since 1994 as well as the well-known and highly talented local, Wikaphonikern.
Traditional Bavarian games such as the ever-popular mechanical bull-riding, archery, log-sawing and beer-lifting for the ladies also promises to bring exciting entertainment to the participants. In addition, the Windhoek Oktoberfest’s very own beer queen will be crowned to represent the Oktoberfest during the year to come. Ladies interested in the beer queen competition can apply online and stand a chance to win a trip to Cape Town and become an ambassador for sophisticated beer culture.
Like every year for the past 5 years, the event will be held at the SKW sports club in large beer tents, with long tables and benches. All local Namibia Breweries’ beers will be available, as well as an Oktoberfest “Festbier” brewed specially for the event.
