Bonsmara, Brahman, bank’s favourites

The annual Bonsmara promotional day in August and the accompanying G8 auction have become a platform for sharing information, and from expert presentations by the leading minds in stud cattle breeding.

The Agri Division of First National Bank sponsored this day with N$400,000.
“FNB Agri has identified two main cattle breeds in Namibia and financially supports these during the course of the year at strategic events,” said Jacques Cloete, FNB Business Central Area Agricultural Manager. He said that one of the identified cattle breeds is the Bonsmara, emphasising that farming is a business and not a lifestyle. “The value and importance of farming in our country should never be underestimated,” he added.
Key speakers at the event included Johan Mouton of Molatek who spoke about the correct nutrition, while Wilhelm Moosehuus lectured about management and the profitability of cattle farming.
Another topic of discussion was genetics led by Fourie Scheepers, while Jacques Cloete from FNB Agri spoke about the proper planning and managing of a farmer’s finances. He said that farmers should be pro-active and prepared when dealing with the bank and noted that farmers should be informed about developments in the world with specific reference to agriculture and the economy.
