That Oteya is one of Namibia’s finest musicians is unquestionable. The multi-award winning and NAMA 2015 Female Artist of the Year kicked off the first leg of her tour last weekend in the capital proving to all those in doubt that dynamite does indeed come in small packages.

This dynamite exploded on Friday evening at the National Theatre and then the next day, at the Zoo Park.
Warming up the stage for the petite singer was Beast Mambo, Deena, Dixon, The Dogg, C-Squared, LMPC of Ogopa Butterfly, and Paul da Prince. Oteya performed hits from her debut and deluxe albums ‘Ethimbo’ with a live band. The former Gal Level singer had the crowd gyrating their hips and singing along to songs from her days as a member of Gal Level. The audience swooned on songs like ‘Ohole’ and ‘Go back to her’ as well as ‘Simoni’ and ‘Chiporoporo’ which she performed alongside stablemate Swartbaster. Then she did ‘Judy’ and the famous ‘Ethimbo’, a song which late last year announced to the workd that indeed, Oteya’s time has come.
The two shows were not just all about song and dance but laughter too. Africa’s very own queen of comedy, Ugandan comedienne Anne Kansiime was in the capital. Rounds of laughter filled both the National Theatre and Zoo Park amphitheater with jokes on Namibian men, women and fake assets. Kansiime even joked about her husband’s skin tone.
Opening for Kansiime was Namibia’s very own queen of comedy Sibongile Tshabalala who joked about sugar daddies and foreign men. Tshabalala also proved that she is someone to look out for on the comedy scene with her refreshed approach to bringing humour to the stage.
Oteya’s and Ogopa Butterfly’s manager Sula Kyababa said they are pleased with the outcome of last weekend’s shows and are even more pleased that both shows went off without any fights. “A good promoter knows that he has done a great job when his shows achieve two things, which are a good attendance as well as a peaceful show. We achieved both”.
When asked about Oteya’s future plans, Kyababa said the singer is currently in the North for the continuation of the first leg of her tour which will go on until 26 September 2015. Thereafter, Oteya will travel to Washington DC in the USaon 9 October where she will perform before heading to Canada and coming back to Windhoek to prepare for the second leg of her tour which is slated for the North-Eastern part of the country covering Rundu and Katima Mulilo.
