Sybrand Coetzee, the new Managing Director of Bank Gaborone.

Bank Windhoek this week officially announced the appointment of Sybrand Coetzee as new Managing Director of Bank Gaborone. He assumed his new responsibilities at the beginning of July.

Coetzee is a well-known and respected former employee of Bank Windhoek and has been working as a seconded manager in Gaborone since 2008.
Bank Gaborone operates in Botswana and is a subsidiary of Capricorn Investment Holdings (CIH), a Namibian investment holding company of which the NSX-listed Bank Windhoek is the flagship brand.
Bank Gaborone was established in September 2006, with a former Bank Windhoek executive, André Barnard as the founding managing director. Coetzee served in various senior positions in Bank Windhoek, including as Branch Manager, at various branches and is well-known in the Namibian market.
He started his career at Bank Gaborone in 2008 when he was seconded by the group from Bank Windhoek as Senior Manager: Banking Services, a position he held until 2010, when he was promoted to the position of Chief Operating Officer. He spearheaded major strategic shifts across the bank’s portfolio of products and services, which have led to the bank excelling in customer care and gaining market share within a short period.
“Bank Windhoek is proud of Sybrand and we wish him the best in his new role. We are confident that, with his vast experience in banking and knowledge of the Botswana market, he will contribute to the growth of Bank Gaborone, especially in a market where clients are continuously looking for tech-savvy banks that can provide convenient banking services”, said Christo de Vries, Managing Director of Bank Windhoek.
Coetzee holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics and Banking) from Potchefstroom University, a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) (Economics) also from the Puk and a Master’s in Business Leadership (MBL) from the UNISA School of Business Leadership. He has successfully completed the CIH group’s Internal Leadership Development Programme.
