Redecker conquers Nedbank series

Team KIA Elite rider Heinrich Kohne missed out on a first place at the Nedbank Cross Country Series for the first team this year as Heiko Redecker beat him to the win in the Elite men category during the fourth race of the series on Saturday.

Kohne had won all three previous events of the series. Redecker, who had triumphed alongside Gerhard Mans Jnr. during the Namib Quest race a fortnight ago, finished the six laps in 1:28:10 hours. Kohne clocked in at 1:19:57 while Raul Costa Seibeb completed the podium with 1:39:10.
Young Brandon Plaatjes was another stand-out performer of the KIA Elite team, clinching the third place in the junior men division. Plaatjes finished the race in 1:33:56. Tristan de Lange was the fastest youngster on the day (1:27:03). Herbert Peters made the second place (1:29:32).
Steffanie Grossmann took the win with the junior ladies (1:21:16) as she was the only one to compete. Meanwhile Irene Steyn was in a class of her own in the elite women’s division once again. She complete the five rounds in 1:29:50, about eight minutes faster than her only competitor on the day, Hester Prins (1:37:47).
