Lifting the veil 25 years later

Engineer of Namibian Independence, Dirk Mudge this week revealed what happened in the twelve years leading up to Independence and immediately afterwards.

The veteran politician and farmer launched his book chronicling the tentative steps that started as single points of contact and later grew into a groundswell that engulfed the entire country, ultimately leading to Independence on 21 March 1990. Mudge starts his book with this historic event and ends it with the petition that it is up to the next generation to lead the country into the future. Joining him and his wife Stienie, (third from left) are all five his children. From the left are Annalien Basson, Henk Mudge, Mrs Stienie Mudge, Mr Dirk Mudge, Chrisna Greeff, Jaco Mudge and Riéth van Schalkwyk. See article on page 14 (Photograph by Ingrid Demasius)
