New Jazz kids play at Kalabar
Every week, the Kalabar introduces new faces to its Thursday evenings Jazz-Etcetera live music sessions.
Two quite different ladies who share a similar first name – Anna – are scheduled to perform there in the second half of May. First is Anna Shalihu, stage name Kandaha, a young woman of nineteen. She is an all-round artist in the making.
Her first encounter with music was at her church at which point she and the people around her recognised her talent.
But she is also making waves as a visual artist and she has other artistic hobbies like gymnastics, dancing and fashion.
Her music sound is jazzy. She says she loves gospel, acoustic pop, R&B and Hip Hop.
Kandaha will perform at the Kalabar on Thursday 21 May 2015 supported by a three piece combo with Wayn Mhlanga on bass, Wilfried Kisting on keyboard and Inna Goroh on drums.
A week later, on 30 May, Annastasia will grace the Kalabar stage. Better known as Ann Singer, Annastasia is a young musical artist and vocalist who has just begun to catch attention as a singer.
She is studying at the UNAM Medical School to become a radiographer but in her spare time, music is what captures her soul. She is in the process of producing her first CD after a very successful recent launch of her single ‘Mbwiti Dance’. This song is currently on No 5 of the local Base FM hit parade. She is accompanied by Adam on keyboard and Afron on bass.
Ernst Herma, the director of Ondjila Y’Ondjaba said the Jazz Etcetera concerts at the Hilton Kalabar are going from strength to strength.
“Big names of the Namibian music have passed there over the past two years as well as upcoming new talent.”
The show takes place on Thursday evenings from 19:00 to 21:00. It is open to the public and entrance is free.
