Goeieman sets new record

Erich Goeieman, one of the top road runners of Namibia won the Benguella West Coast Marathon (21 km) on Saturday, 17 March at Langebaan, South Africa with a new record of 1 hour 10 minutes. AREVA Namibia renewed his sponsorship for a second term in a row.
What is the main driver behind your motivation?
“Self development. I am recovering from a series of injuries, and need to push myself the extra mile! I chose the Benguella because it was a tough race that is run on both tar and off-road, competing against 2,000 runners. I really put myself to the test.”
Training is crucial. How do you manage?
“I run three hours per day. Christo Swarts from Windhoek is coaching me on several techniques in sprint, endurance and stamina.”
What is your schedule for 2012?
“I assist AREVA Namibia with technical advice and athletics training with young promising athletes in Spitzkoppe, Arandis and Swakopmund. Apart from this responsibility, I am aiming to qualify for the Olympic Games 2012 in July-August, London. My next international marathon will be the Gaborone City (22nd April), PETROSA Mossel Bay (11th August) and Cape Town Marathon (23rd September).
