Newly appointed chairman of the Bankers Association of Namibia, Lionel Matthews was elated at the response shown by bank clientèle and staff members alike when he spoke at the annual Barefoot for Charity event held at the Old Power Station in the capital this week.

“While this is only the second edition of the Bankers Association of Namibia’s annual Walk Barefoot for Charity initiative, the overwhelming response received from both our staff and clients has been a highlight for each one of us and a gratifying experience for our organisation,” said an elated Matthews.
Added Matthews, “We have significant businesses to run and of course, our main focus remains on providing our customers with levels of service that they will become accustomed to. But we also have a keen interest in the well-being of our people. We have full appreciation for the fact that we have a responsibility towards those less fortunate than ourselves and it is a responsibility that all of us will continue to embrace.” Matthews sounded optimistic that the association would eclipse the number of shoes collected in 2014, which amounted to just over 7000 pairs which were distributed in Namibia.
