Uushona leads women in retail

Hester Uushona

A Namibian became the first women ever to be appointed to the position of Regional Manager in the entire Pick n Pay organisation. Earlier this year, Hester Uushona became the Regional Manager in the North for Model Pick n Pay. She has worked for the Ohlthaver and List Group, the Pick n Pay  franchise holder, for 19 years.

Uushona said her career with the O&L Group had numerous highlights ranging from decreasing Pick n Pay Oshakati’s stock losses to 0.2%; achieving an A rating EBIT target for Oshakati Pick n Pay in 2014, opening new stores in Oshana and Ondangwa B6 and giving in-store training to new and existing employees and helping them grow.
About her promotion she said “I am truly grateful and humbled for the growth I have experienced in the O&L Group and eagerly accept this opportunity and challenge with a profound sense of responsibility.”
To young people she had this to say: “My advice would be commit yourself to hard work, give it all, go the extra mile, lead from the heart, be humble, continuously improve yourself, set specific goals that will give you a clean roadmap as to where you want to go, and the most important one; be patient.  You can be anything you want.”
