Song Night’s star power

Song Night 2015 has officially begun last week Wednesday evening with several performances that grabbed the audience’s attention, most notably the moving songs by Anna and Priscilla.Anna performed two original songs, which both had a spiritual theme. She has a voice that is both breezy and soulful and she knows how to use her vocal range in a playful, but striking way.

The one performer who stood out the most however, was by Priscilla, whose love for Aretha Franklin did not put the legend to shame as she sang her rendition of ‘Natural Woman’ and ‘R.E.S.P.E.C.T’. This woman is a performer. She seized the song and made it her own, and with her voice and character alone, she shook the room. As she swayed, the room swayed, as she belted out, we screamed! She certainly got all my respect. Song Night seems to be a place where people go to unwind after a long day, and you could definitely sense the relief and bubbliness from the audience throughout the evening. It was pleasing that people’s attitudes were able to carry and hold the ambience in such high spirits. Before every Song Night event, the performers are screened through an auditioning process. So expect to see some sprinkles of star power but remember, there’s no telling exactly what you’ll find. According to Lize Ehlers, the creator of Song Night, the event is all about mentorship and that is why it works. Although there were some performers who I felt could have done better, a great deal of love came from the crowd regardless, which was uplifting.
