Swakop Uranium inks agreement with union

Swakop Uranium employees in the bargaining unit will officially be represented by the Mineworkers Union of Namibia (MUN) in future negotiations on their conditions of employment. Swakop Uranium and MUN on Tuesday signed the Recognition and Procedural Agreement, which aims to set down the governing principles for the relationship between Swakop Uranium and MUN in terms of the collective bargaining processes.

At the signing ceremony, Swakop Uranium’s CEO, Zheng Keping, said, “when an agreement is reached, it signals the willingness by all parties to foster closer relations. I am pleased that we were able to conclude this agreement at the onset of the year, thus contributing towards the high performing culture around employee satisfaction, greater productivity and a hard working and dedicated workforce striving for excellence.”
Representing MUN and the bargaining unit employees, Ismael Kasuto said, “The MUN want to extend its gratitude towards Swakop Uranium for the recent constructive engagement that led to the speedy conclusion of the solid recognition agreement between MUN and Swakop Uranium.”
Swakop Uranium agreed to recognize MUN to be the Bargaining Agent of employees within the Bargaining Unit by the Branch Executive Committee which will represent the views and aspirations of its members as elected in terms of its constitution.
