Archers kick-off new season
Archers will kick-off the 2015 season this weekend when they meet at the SKW facilities for the annual AFRO Pumps Shoot, which marks the first official competition of the year. The tournament once again includes both Re-curve and Compound divisions, with the majority of archers competing in the latter. Thus far, more than 20 archers have confirmed their participation in the event. Entry fees for the competition are only N$100 per archer.
The participants will get a chance to practise and to test their equipment on 23 January before going head-to-head on Saturday where they will compete in a 720 Round (72 arrows of 10 points each). Based on the results of the 720 Round, the archers will be seeded accordingly and then move to the elimination rounds where even the slightest of mistakes can make the difference between victory and defeat. The Archery Association of Namibia (AAN) emphasized that there is no entrance fee and spectators are more than welcome to watch some of Namibia’s most outstanding archers in action. At last year’s AFRO Pumps Shoot, Louw Nel and Beanta Viviers came out on top of the Compound Men and Women categories respectively. The 2014 edition saw 30 archers compete in 11 different categories.
