Bidvest Namibia Cup back in January
The third edition of the Bidvest Namibia Cup will be launched on 20 January 2015 in Windhoek but action will resume from 9-10 January 2015 with the grand finale set for 30 May 2015 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium. Namibia Football Association (NFA) Secretariat head Barry Rukoro said, ‘Bigger and Better’ finals of the three-year deal between the Sponsors Bidvest Namibia and the football custodians the NFA will starts with elimination rounds for the first and second divisions on the weekends of 09-10 and the 16-17 January 2015 in the respective regions.
“We are anticipating an increase of the excitement and interest in the competition from what we had for the past two years. We are calling on the clubs and regions to ensure that as a football family, we continue to lead in terms of entertaining our football loving people. This is a cup of dreams and we know that every club have an equal chance of making it all the and the final on 30 May is the limit. We are surely looking forward to it,” Rukoro said. The 2015 Bidvest Namibia Cup Competition Proper, featuring 32 clubs including the 16 Premier league outfits will be played on 30-31 January as well as on 01 February 2015, at venues still to be determined. The Round of 16 will be contested on 27-28 February as well on 01 March 2015, with the quarterfinals set for the weekend of 27-29 March 2015.
The penultimate round, the semifinal, will be played on the weekend of 24-26 April 2015 with the final match, bringing the curtain down on the 2014/2015 football season, to be contested on 30 May 2015.
African Stars will look to make it three in a row after they won it in 2013 by beating Mighty Gunners 2-0 and this year beating Citizens FC with 3-2 on penalties after a goalless draw. In 2014, African Stars walked away N$550,000 richer in prize money. The man of the match was Citizens’ Tjiwana-Tja Tjinotjiua who walked away N$5,000 in prize money.
Bidvest Namibia also upped the stakes in the Bidvest Namibia Cup with various competitions including a “selfie” competition with N$1000 in prize money for 5 winners, while some 3000 fans won gifts at the final. These and more to be part of the 2015 edition guaranteed.
