Several law firms and individuals were recognised and awarded by the JP Karuaihe Trust earlier in November, for their contributions to the practice of law. For the second year running, the Judge JP Karuaihe awards ceremony took place on the same day and prior to the Annual General Meeting of the Law Society of Namibia.

Since the awards are centred around legal practitioners and law students, it creates an opportunity for the legal practitioners to be present when future legal practitioners and their peers are awarded for their achievements. The awards for best Justice Training student went to Daneala Beukes who achieved 69.36% average in all 11 subjects. The award for best LLB Final Year Student for 2013 went to Sune de Klerk who achieved 78% average. The winner of the Legal Excellence Award for Social Responsibility is the Legal Assistance Centre represented by its director, Toni Hancox. The winner of the Legal Excellence Award for Human Rights is the Office of the Ombudsman represented by Eileen Rakow.
